I have the 2 gb version, a gift from my brothers on 26 September 2005. I use it mostly as USB disk, and as an ebook listening device.

Specification

  • Connection: USB
  • Screen: 176 x 132 0.168 mm dot pitch
  • On board RAM: 32 Mb
  • Physical size: 89 mm x 41 mm x 6.9 mm
  • Weight: 42.5 g (1.5 oz)

Alternative Firmware

Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/) is a good alternative firmware for ipod nano. I don't really like the RockBox firmware for playing music or listening ebook, so I dual boot between RockBox and original firmware. Rockbox has many more games and it has some useful tools (such as image viewer).

Battery Replacement

After 5 years the battery capacity becomes a problem (it can last for about an hour), I bought a replacement from DealExtreme and installed it myself (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.573~r.70455276). I followed the guide from iFixit(http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-iPod-Nano-1st-Generation-Battery-Replacement/774/1), it was quite difficult to open the case, but after i manage to open it, the rest was quite easy.
